Subtle and Concise

Could M&LF build a contemporary, handsome and comfortable bench for an exhibit at the Mark Twain Museum in Hartford? The M&LF workshop responded with a full-scale mock-up of a wood bench for two, with an armrest suitable for mounting the exhibit's listening apparatus. M&LF recommended clear natural American maple for the project. The design was accepted. Thus the Mark Twain Bench came into being.

The design for the bench is subtle and concise. Because the bench's structure is firm, upright, and equipped with armrests, seniors can easily get themselves up and out. The bench's firmness and inviting comfort derives from the shaped seat profile and orientation of the smooth maple planks.

The Mark Twain Bench is a firm, upright hardwood bench for two with arms and a back. Subtly shaped planks provide comfort and support.

The bench whispers quality and substance. The spare and honest design blends seamlessly with the space it occupies.
